Dr. Jon I Einarsson MD PhD MPH is a Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Founder of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is the past President of the AAGL, the largest international organization in MIGS and a current board member of the European Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy (ESGE). He has published over 200 peer reviewed articles and abstracts and is the author of a textbook in the field. He has given over 200 lectures, live telesurgeries and keynote addresses in 5 continents. Dr. Einarsson is also an innovator with several granted and pending patents and has also pioneered surgical techniques that are now standard of care, such as the use of barbed suture in laparoscopic surgery.
A native of Iceland, he established a private practice at the Reykjavík Center for Specialized Surgery in 2021 that is focused on offering advanced surgical options for benign gynecologic conditions. Among the procedures offered are laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, laparoscopic cerclage for cervical incompetence and neuropelveology procedures. He also continues to practice part time at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Einarsson is specialized in complex gynecologic surgery and is almost always able to offer patients a minimally invasive option when patients were told their procedure could only be done through a large incision (laparotomy).
